Yo! Whatever you are doing for the May long weekend, start it on the Saturday. You don’t want to miss this jam!

Samba Elegua returns to Uma Nota! The show will feature David Arcus, guitarist and arranger, plus a host of fiery local talent including: Juno-winning jazz saxophonist Richard Underhill (alto sax); Nick Teehan on tenor sax and Nicolas Bulligan on trumpet; Scott McCannell on bass; Tamar Ilana and Betty Santos on vocals; all of this backed by the Samba Elegua bateria, in turn led by Jon Medow, and Uma Nota’s own Jonathan Rothman.

And we can’t sit still about the return of dangerously danceable DJ duo Circle Research to the Uma Nota stage. They’ve been rocking it hard lately with a new release “Gardiner Express” and a number of successful outings showcasing their soulful hip-hop and electro-boogie efforts. Lots of hard drumbeats and crackly vinyl samples with a synth-funk vibe laid overtop.

Our own resident DJ General Eclectic keeps it up with his mix of ska, Brazilian, reggae, Afrobeat and other selected treasures.

Plus opening DJ sets from new man on the T.O. scene Jason Oculto and Uma Nota’s own beloved Alkiks.
