The National Park Service Unigrid system designed by Vignelli in the late 1970's.

At that time I was teaching my own Visual Media Technology program at Spokane Falls Community College and I had set up a student intern program with the Washington State Parks and Recreation Dept. They were experiencing serious budget cuts and asked if perhaps my students would take photographs and design publications for their remote eastern Washington state parks as classroom projects. I scoured everything concerning information design for the students to study and we ran across Vignelli's work to our great delight. It was a real epiphany for my students to see information design at its very best.

I created this for the premiere of Intern Edition Summer 2009 at National Public radio. Due to unfortunate printer problems, the color prints were not aligned properly, leading too an off-center interior layout. The 50 color prints were given to other interns as keepsakes, and a run of 200 low-quality black and white prints were rushed out for the actual premiere.
